Ice Cube
2018

The piece shows an ice cube reflecting Trump’s speech “Make America great again”. While the speech is running, the ice is gradually melting. By the end of the video, all that is left is water.

The obscurity of the set, and the futility of an ice cube, questions the strength of Trump’s words. The image of Trump is distorted through the ice cube. It becomes then an abstracted movement of colors and patterns. The background is dark, like a Baroque painting. The obscurity creates this uncertainty, an emptiness where the only point of reference is the ice cube and its reflection. This piece was a comment on the political situation at the time. In this video, Trump’s speech establishes the dark omen of his mandate. I like to see how the work acquires meaning over time, how it reads differently, how it survives to posterity.
