Full Spectrum Dominance
Series of watercolors
2018

Full Spectrum Dominance is a series of watercolors of space launches from U.S space stations. The dimensions of the watercolors (9x12 inches) allude to the Plein air landscape painting as if the watercolors were studies of space launches in real-time. I wanted to recreate an experience, a fleeting moment.

The paintings show colorful and deceptively beautiful images of the spectacle of space launches. The imagery romanticizes the turbulent motive behind the spectacle: control of outer space. For this series, I used images of rockets and spaceships, as well as missile launchers. This tricks the viewer since there is no way to distinguish one from the other, a detail embedded in the subtext of the work.
